Case Study overview

R&D Tax Credits
A custom tooling manufacturer knew they were conducting R&D activities, but was not sure which activities were eligible. We interviewed key engineering personnel, reviewed project information, pulled accounting records, and conducted a site tour. We identified the eligible activities and associated expenses to calculate the tax credit. We built an audit file composed of 10,000-plus pages of documentation. As a result of our due diligence, we found $422,000 for a single tax year, while previously they were only able to identify $86,000. By focusing on specialty manufacturing companies we are able to identify and substantiate what others often miss. Our team of engineers, technical writers, and CPA’s work together to ensure accuracy.

Training Grants
An IT company maintained its competitive edge by hiring talented junior IT professionals and providing them with extensive on-the-job training. This enabled the company to perform at a higher level and to foster technological progress through increased innovation. Sycamore secured enough state training-grant dollars to fund a large portion of the company’s internal expenses for two years. As a result, the company made significant investments in its staff, improving its competitive position in the market.
